Education

·         January 2007 – Present

Masters Candidate

Dept. of Natural Resources and Environmental Science

University of Nevada, Reno

Thesis: Long term vegetation response in the Great Basin: Forty years of succession following prescribed fire and chaining

Advisor: Dr. Peter J. Weisberg

·         December 2002

Bachelor of Science, Biological Sciences

Emphasis in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior

College of Agriculture

University of California, Davis

Professional Experience

·         May 2007 – August 2007

Biological Science Technician

USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Reno, Nevada

My role in this project was primarily to gather plant abundance data along elevation and aspect gradients for a plant community distribution study in central Nevada.  Data entry and analysis were also performed for this study.

·         April 2006 – November 2006

Biological Science Technician

USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Reno, Nevada

I aided in the collection of data for tree canopy cover, shrub canopy cover, shrub density, herbaceous fuel, litter fuel, and soils to determine site conditions prior to the application of prescribed fire and tree removal by use of chainsaw.

·         September 2005 – August 2007

Research Assistant

Department of Natural Resources and Environment Science, University of Nevada, Reno

In the Landscape Ecology Lab I have performed a variety of services including: creation and editing of GIS layers, ground truthing for remotely sensed data, field work assistance, data entry, and web support.

·         May 2005 – December 2005

Biological Science Technician

USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Reno, Nevada

By collecting Pinus monophylla and Juniperus osteosperma age and abundance data; I assisted with the construction of a fire history timeline for a portion of the Shoshone Mountain Range in Central Nevada.  My contribution included measuring tree crown dimensions as well as collecting and preparing tree cores for dendrochronological analysis.

·         June 2004 – December 2004

Biological Science Technician

USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Reno, Nevada

The objective of this project was to collect extensive plant cover data along elevation and aspect gradients in central Nevada.  I participated in plant identification and species percent cover estimation.

·         July 2000 – September 2002

Research Assistant

Department of Environmental Science and Policy, University of California, Davis

The project with which I was involved concerned monitoring restoration efforts on the Cosumnes River watershed.   We measured oak establishment, percent vegetation cover, and plant species presence on the lower Cosumnes River to evaluate different restoration practices.

·         June 2000 – September 2000

Volunteer Research Assistant

Population Biology Graduate Group, University of California, Davis

I assisted with research on the effects of herbivory by Pieris rapae (Lepidoptera) on a greenhouse population of Brassica plants.  My duties included the maintenance of the caterpillar colony and observation of changes in plant biomass and reproductive ability.
