The mission of UNR's Great Basin Landscape Ecology Lab is to improve our understanding of landscape dynamics and to apply this understanding in support of sound natural resource management. We are interested in the causes and consequences of landscape change, including natural disturbances, effects of anthropogenic land use, ungulate-landscape interactions, and invasive species. Our research often considers past landscape change as a guide to understanding present and future condition, and we integrate field studies, GIS, remote sensing and simulation modeling in our research. The special geographical focus of the Lab is on landscapes of the Great Basin and eastern Sierras. The lab was initiated in August, 2003 and is under the direction of Dr. Peter Weisberg. |
