CABNR Undergraduate Research Scholarship Availability List

The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources has available scholarships for undergraduates to perform original research. Research may be done in any CABNR faculty member’s laboratory during the fall, spring, or summer semester or as specified by the Research Mentor. All research scholarships are awarded for 2013-2014 academic school year beginning fall 2013.

 

BEGIN APPLICATION PROCESS

 

  1. Western Nevada Supply Company Scholarship (WNSCO)
    1. Students must have freshman status at the time of application, and be pursuing a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources.
    2. Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the year the scholarship is awarded and must be a full-time student.
    3. Students must work with a CABNR faculty mentor to perform original research in the field of Biotechnology or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. See list of specific Biotechnology and Molecular Biology mentors.
      Amount of award: $1,000
        
  2. Capurro Scholarship (Capurro)
    1. Students must be nominated by CABNR, have a junior or senior standing and be pursuing a degree program in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources.
    2. Students must identify financial need and be a full-time student (24 UNR credits/year).
    3. Students must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the year the scholarship is awarded.
    4. Students shall participate in internships, research projects or other creative tasks where they will take an active, involved, thought provoking approach to problem solving relative to agriculture related issues in the Great Basin
    5. Research is conducted fall and spring terms. The scholarship is a one year scholarship and a change of major forfeits the scholarship
      Amount of award: $2,600
       
  3. Byer Scholarship (Byer)
    1. Students must be nominated by CABNR, have a junior or senior standing, be a full-time student (24 UNR credits/year) and must have and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the year the scholarship is awarded.
    2. Students will undertake activities in Biotechnology Research with faculty advisement such as internships, research projects, or other creative tasks
    3. Must provide a proposal of activities to be conducted with approval of their faculty advisor.
    4. The scholarship is a one year scholarship and a change of major forfeits the scholarship.
      Amount of award: $2,700
        

Further Guidelines:

  • Students graduating in May 2013 are not eligible.
  • All application materials must be received by May 31, 2013 or your application will not be given further consideration.
  • Acceptance of this award may impact a student’s income level to a degree that could affect eligibility for student loans, and other scholarship/fellowship opportunities. If an applicant has any concerns in this area, it is the student’s duty to consult with a campus financial aid advisor. The research scholarships are awarded for Fall 2013-2014 academic school year starting in the Fall.
