| POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Whittell Graduate Assistantships
Description and Stipend:
Summer Graduate Assistantships are available on a competitive
basis. Each assistantship provides a stipend of up to $1000 per
month for up to 4 months during the summer field season (May to
October 2004). The goal of the assistantship is to provide support
for original research. An individual student is permitted to seek
support for up to two years (one year at a time). Applicants for
assistantships can also request up to $500 per year in materials
and supplies.
Requirements:
- The George Whittell Forest and Wildlife Area (Little Valley)
must be the primary research site. Research projects may center
on the flora, fauna, natural or cultural resources, geology, etc.
of Little Valley.
- Applicants must be accepted into a Plan A (research option)
graduate degree program at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain satisfactory progress towards completion of a graduate
degree at UNR or UNLV.
- Maintain a presence in Little Valley during the summer field
season.
- Assist with maintenance of facilities in Little Valley.
- Submit a report of research results at the end of each calendar
year of support. Assistantships can be terminated for students
who do not fulfill any one of these responsibilities.
Application:
Applications for an assistantship must include all of the following:
- A short (<2 pages) proposal describing the research project.
- A budget for stipend and/or materials (an assistantship can
be initiated at any time between 1 May and 1 September 2001)
- Resume or curriculum vitae.
- A statement of current and pending financial support for the
coming year.
- A letter of support from the advisor.
