Abstract:
Under this project, the University of Nevada Reno Nevada Coorperative Extension Service will recruit and train unemployed and/or troubled youths in their late teens along with the necessary job counselors/coaches to perform a wide range of BLM wildlife habitat improvement projects, with an emphasis on sage grouse and other sagebursh obligate species.
Executive Summary:
The purpose of this task order is to document the geology of the Sloan canyon NCA, to provide a geological framework of the Sloan Canyon NCA, including the North McCullough Wilderness Area, as a basis for information that will be presented to the public through the NCA's environmental education program. BEcause of the excellent exposure of volcanic rocks in the Sloan Canyon NCA, the area provides an exceptional opportunity to study the volcanic history of the las Vegas Area. The southern and eastern margins of the Las Vegas Valley are formed by volcanic rocks erupted from volcanoes in the McCullough and River Mountains. The NCA environmental education program will eventually use the results of this basic reasearch to provide students and vistors with an understanding and appreciation of the natural history of the valley.
