Limnology is the study of inland waters (freshwater or saline) whether they are lakes, rivers, estuaries, or groundwater. “Limnos” is derived from Greek and means “pool or pond”. “Ology” means “the study of”. Limnologists study how biological, geological, physical, and chemical factors govern the dynamics of aquatic ecosystems.
