Understanding Why Saltcedar Is So Invasive Along the Colorada River |
|
Saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima) an invasive weed has had enormous economic and ecological consequences for agricultural and natural resource sectors within the western United States, but its control has proved difficult and expensive. This study will provide fundamental research into the combinations of landscape changes, climate, and hydrological flows which promote saltcedar (aka, tamarisk) invasion. Our goal is to generate useful information as to the conditions under which native plant communities are favored, and saltcedar invasion is thwarted.

Silver and blue make green at new greenhouses
The new $6.2 million greenhouse complex off Valley Road, offers impressive accommodations for the college’s environmental research, each of the six greenhouses is 96 feet long and 30 feet wide. The buildings are anchored to a 12,000-square-foot headhouse.
