USDA grant to identify genetic functions in mountain pine beetle

RENO, Nev.—Small in stature—but huge on impact—the mountain pine beetle is taking a significant bite out of North American forests. “This beetle is the single most significant insect pest of pine forests in western North America,” according to Claus Tittiger, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Nevada, Reno. “There have been major outbreaks in British Columbia and Alaska, particularly in the last few years, causing significant timber losses.” Read more...
