Providing Caregivers A Web Campus-Based Interactive Modules And Onsite Workshops For Safe Food Handling Practices

General InformationPersonnelBackgroundObjectivesReferences
Food safety for caregivers

Nevada has been one of the fastest growing states in the US for the past two decades and such growth is associated with increases in population that faces relatively large food safety hazards (elderly, young children, those with immune compromised problems). In many situations, the caregiver for young and elderly are their first line of defense in preventing foodborne illnesses. Based on two major surveys conducted in Nevada, there is a strong need for proactive food safety education to caregivers.

This project develops the means whereby caregiver facilities are more empowered to prevent or prevail over outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. Through the development of an online food safety education program, caregivers will be able to access an interactive web site that is fully narrated and animated curriculum at their convenience. In addition to web training, we will also be providing onsite food safety workshops for those who lack internet access or simply require on-site training.
