Community Outreach & Services

 

The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR) participates through Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station and Nevada Cooperative Extension in the program areas of Agriculture, Environmental and Natural Resources.

 

The college promotes multidisciplinary environmental research through a variety of outreach programs, activities, and events designed to disseminate the results of the research to the community at large.  Existing outreach programs continue to enhance the quality of science education, knowledge and enthusiasm of students and community members.

 

 Center for Economic Development

The University Center for Economic Development (UCED) was established in the fall of 1992 in response to the growing need within the state for economic development research, technical assistance and educational services. The UCED's primary objective is fostering economic development throughout Nevada by making the extensive resources of the University of Nevada, Reno available to organizations and areas that can benefit from job and income creation and job retention efforts.  The UCED is sponsored by the University of Nevada, Reno with support provided by the Economic Development  Administration (EDA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  To learn more CLICK HERE

 

 Risk Management Education for Sustainable Agriculture

The goal of this project is to develop and deliver risk management education programs to livestock and forage producers in the State of Nevada. The educational program consist of one or two day seminars in the areas of financial, production, legal and market risk. The seminar topics are based upon programming needs as indicated in producer seminar evaluations and surveys. As a result of these programs, participating producers are able to more effectively manage their enterprise and have an understanding of the various risk management options available to them. Informed decisions regarding markets, pricing, and production based on strong financial analysis leading to sustainable agricultural practices and enhanced quality of life for farmers and their surrounding communities.

 Nevada Source Water Protection

 Nevada Youth Range Camp

  Range Camp is a program for high school youth to spend a week learning about the relationships between people and rangeland. Campers learn about plants, wildlife, water, and soil in order to make good decisions about rangeland management and use. To learn more CLICK HERE

 Understanding Your Routine Domestic Water Analysis Test
