The Department of Animal Biotechnology at the University of Nevada, Reno is one of the most successful departments in the country in competing for resources that support biomedical, agricultural, and veterinary research.
Major funding for both research and education is provided by the State of Nevada, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the US Department of Agriculture. Corporations, foundations, professional groups, and individual benefactors also provide substantial support.
The college traditionally has excelled in the fields of infectious diseases, reproductive biology, and the basic mechanisms underlying health and disease that are common to animals and humans. Recently, major emphasis has been given to clarifying those mechanisms at cellular and molecular levels as well as to the identification of the animal genome. |
