Economics
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics provides a rigorous theoretical and
quantitative basis in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory and
econometrics for analyzing a variety of applied economic problems. Applied
fields of specialization include Resource and Environmental Economics, Regional
Economics, Applied Econometrics, and Applied Microeconomics. Faculty members are
highly engaged in research in these areas, and PhD students who are employed as
Graduate Research Assistants work directly with these faculty on their research.
Many students find dissertation research opportunities in the context of their
Research Assistantships. Teaching Assistantships are also available. The program
is flexible and can accommodate strong prospective students who may have
backgrounds in areas other than economics.
