 Dietetics - Bachelor of Science

Dietetics is the science or art of applying the principles of nutrition to the feeding of individuals or groups under different economic conditions or for hygienic or therapeutic purposes. The Dietetics option provides students with a background in nutrition therapy, food service systems, food industry, business, education and/or research.

Completion of the Bachelor of Science degree with the dietetics option prepares students for the second step in becoming a registered dietitian (RD), a dietetic internship. Upon completion of the internship, students take a national examination to become registered.

The Didactic Program in Dietetics at the University of Nevada, Reno is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), and graduates are prepared to enter an accredited internship prior to taking the Registered Dietitian Examination.

Nutritional Sciences - Bachelor of Science

The Nutritional Sciences Option focuses on developing research skills in preparation for graduate research in nutritional sciences or for entry to a professional school in health care such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or public health.

 Nutritional - Master of Science

The Nutrition Graduate Program strengthens and advances students’ knowledge of nutritional biochemistry/physiology, and the clinical and epidemiological applications of this knowledge. Students also have opportunities to develop a proficiency in a more defined specialization that links nutrition with other biological or behavioral sciences. The program serves the needs of students who are interested in research careers related to nutrition; dietetic professionals seeking advanced training; as well as other health-related professionals who have an interest in nutrition.
