Completing & Submitting the Application for a Dietetics Internship

  1. The internship application must be completed in detail. Be sure to indicate on the last page of the application of you wish to be considered for the Reno site and/or the Las Vegas site.
     
  2. Along with your application include a cover letter that describes your motivation to become a registered dietitian and your ultimate career goals and expectations. Ideally this letter should be no more than one and one half pages in length.
     
  3. Secure and enclose a signed Verification of Completion or Intent to Complete form from your Didactic Program Director. Applicants to the internship are reminded that, if they have sent a Declaration of Intent to Complete with their application, they must obtain a verification statement from their DPD director when they have completed the course work listed and send it to the DI director of the program where they have been accepted before the start date for the internship. Without this confirmation of completion of the DPD requirements, they will not be able to begin an internship.
     
  4. Secure copies of all transcripts in sealed envelopes and include in the application packet, or have them sent directly to:

  5. Submit in sealed, signed envelopes at least three completed recommendation forms. A sample form is attached.. You will need to make additional copies for those individuals you have selected as references. These letters should include, where possible, a letter from
     
    1. the Didactic Program Director at the institution where the Didactic Program requirements were completed and verified;
    2. from a nutrition/food systems management instructor and;
    3. one other person with knowledge regarding your suitability for a Dietetic Internship Program.
  6. Materials must be received by the deadline indicated in this packet. Late materials and incomplete packets will not be reviewed.
     
  7. Applicant must meet appropriate recency requirements.

Your materials will be screened by a committee of three which includes the Dietetic Internship Director and two of the supervising dietitians involved in the Dietetic Internship Program. Although this program has no minimum requirements, academic performance (GPA) and work experience are the most important factors in selection. From the screening a list of top candidates will be compiled. These candidates are invited for an oral interview. After this interview, the screening committee will make its final recommendation and notify the matching agency of its prioritized lists.
