Mission & Goals of the Dietetics Internship

The mission of the Dietetic Internship Program at the University of Nevada is to provide interns with a challenging series of experiences in a broad range of settings that equips them with the entry-level knowledge and skills outlined in the competencies determined by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education, with an emphasis in nutrition therapy. The program seeks to graduate interns who are comfortable and competent in their initial practice as dietetic professionals and who are able to address the current nutritional needs of a variety of populations, especially in the state of Nevada.

Goal 1: To provide interns admitted to the program with the skills and knowledge to satisfy the CADE specified competencies for entry-level dietitians.

Goal 2: To provide interns with a broad range of practice experiences consistent with the changing needs of nutrition care in the U.S., with an emphasis on nutrition therapy.

Goal 3: To train competent dietetics professionals to address the evolving nutritional health concerns of the state of Nevada, both therapeutic and preventative.

Goal 4: To encourage interns and graduates to become active and involved members of the American Dietetic Association and state and regional associations.

Goal 5: To provide interns with ethical principles as defined in the Code of Ethics for the Profession of Dietetics and standards of professional behavior for other health-related professions.
