Alpha Zeta

Herz Gold Medal Winner - Jared WagnerAlpha Zeta is an honorary and professional fraternity of men and women whose educational objectives and/or careers fall within the broadly defined field of agriculture. Founded at The Ohio State University on November 4, 1897, it is the oldest fraternal organization in agriculture. The University of Nevada's chapter was founded April 27, 1963.

Alpha Zeta's goals are to develop leadership skills, recognize academic excellence, serve the college community and promote the agriculture profession. Like agriculture, Alpha Zeta also incorporates business, communications, education, engineering, medicine, natural resources, and sciences. Membership is widely recognized throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and members have become bankers, doctors, educators, executives, farmers, foresters, governors, journalists, managers, ranchers, veterinarians, and scientists.

Membership is limited to the top 40 percent of a class. Candidates are evaluated on leadership, character and commitment to Alpha Zeta's ideals. Membership is then extended to qualified individuals who have completed at least one academic year at a four-year college. Activities include campus and community service projects, regular meetings, social events and other activities.
